Fruit Flower Bouquet: A Great Mother’s Day Gift Idea

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and if you’re still thinking about what you might get your mom, why not show her a bit of your creative side? Instead of shelling out a bunch of money for jewelry or an expensive floral bouquet you can create an edible fruit arrangement at home. There are two general types of fruit arrangements that you can create, both can be beautiful and will taste delicious.

If you would like to make a fruit flower bouquet then you will need flower shaped cookie cutters. Use the flower cookie cutter to cut flower shapes out of the fruit. The easiest fruit to use to create these flowers is pineapple. Cut the top and bottom off of the pineapple and then cut it in half. Cut a ½” thick slice of pineapple, trim off the skin, and then use the cookie cutter to create the flowers. The flower is placed on the end of a skewer and can have a small melon ball added to the tip of the skewer to act as the center of the flower and to hide the tip of the skewer. Using cantaloupe and muskmelon you can cut slices to look like leaves and put them on skewers to add to your bouquet. Add in a few strawberries with their tips pointing upward and maybe some skewers with several grapes or blueberries and you’ll have a pretty fruit flower bouquet for Mother’s Day.

Your fresh fruit bouquet doesn’t have to include flower shaped fruit; instead you can just cut fruit into appropriate sized pieces and put them on skewers in a shish kabob-style. This is an easier technique as you don’t have to worry about the shape of the fruit pieces. This fruit bouquet can also include strawberries, grapes, orange slices, blueberries, and melon. Any fruit that is in season can be included in your fresh fruit bouquet.

When you have your skewers prepared you can use a piece of floral foam in a mug, vase, or other appropriate container to hold the skewers in place. If you don’t have floral foam you can also use a half head of lettuce. The curved shape of the lettuce helps to create a nice presentation with some skewers at higher angles and some lower.

Your mom would love a homemade fresh fruit bouquet or a
fruit flower bouquet
but edible arrangements can also be made out of pieces of candy, vegetables, or even cupcakes. There are lots of DIY edible arrangement ideas. Be creative!
